Welcome to

Sequoyah School!

Sequoyah School is an independent day school in Pasadena, California, where students thrive in a diverse community, are appreciated for their individuality, and are supported by a progressive approach to learning.

At Sequoyah School, students explore, question, and create with purpose within a dynamic and diverse community of learners.

Teachers and staff join the students in their exploration of the world, and support them as they develop academic and social skills to face interesting challenges, create beauty, and care deeply about each other and issues of social justice.

Our unique approach combines child-centered learning, project-based experiences, and a strong community ethos to cultivate lifelong learners who excel academically and contribute meaningfully to society.

Students are not afraid to ask questions, seek guidance, or face the unknown. They gain tools to learn from other people, to sit in complexity, and to enjoy the journey. And they learn how to take care of themselves and each other along the way. In a world that will increasingly demand of them that they discern what is important, they also learn to hone their values and to live by them. This is what makes Sequoyah so special.

We don’t just educate; we inspire and empower students to make a difference.

A Unique K-12 Educational Experience

The K-8 Campus

Students are challenged to be creative, idealistic, and practical in the classroom and out in the community. Hands-on, project-based learning emphasizes thinking critically, making connections, and applying content knowledge.

Academic engagement at Sequoyah is alive with inquiry, discourse, and collaboration alongside independent contemplation, reflection, and introspection.

High School Campus

Our curriculum is built around big- picture mastery to guide students toward purposeful engagement with academic and creative pursuits.

Our grading system centers on feed- back, hard work, and improvement to motivate students to be self-driven learners. We use learning outcomes to demonstrate progress and competency, while traditional grading puts the locus of control with teachers.
