Laura Saenz
Spanish

Laura (she/her) was born and raised in Colombia before moving to the United States, where she developed a strong interest in cultural diversity, languages, and different philosophies of life. This passion led to a degree in International Studies with a minor in Spanish at California State University Long Beach. During her time there, Laura participated in Model United Nations intercollegiate competitions, expanding her understanding of international agreements and diplomacy. Subsequent research focused on United Nations sustainable development programs, particularly in promoting high-quality education in developing countries.

After graduating, Laura joined Teach for America and obtained her Master’s Degree in Bilingual Education from Southern Methodist University. She spent five years teaching bilingual education to elementary and middle school students before joining the Garden School Foundation, a non-profit organization promoting greener schools in Los Angeles County. In this role, she worked alongside passionate young adults interested in environmental education and urban greening, acting as a mentor in areas of education, urban farming, and community engagement.

Laura realizes the potential of high school students to make a significant impact in the community and is excited to introduce the diversity and richness of the Spanish-speaking world to Sequoyah students!
