Roles and Responsibilities
Sequoyah School seeks a dynamic Humanities and English teacher to join the faculty. This position will work closely with members of the Humanities Department to build an immersive and engaging program for language learning and culture.
The English and Humanities faculty position responsibilities include:
- Teach two sections of upper-level English or 9th-10th Humanities courses per term (sections are 80 min blocks)
- Teach a Z block mini-course elective for 3 mods
- Serve as an Advisor to a designated group of students; responsibilities include academic coaching, facilitating lessons on diversity & inclusion, and interpersonal skill development and team building
- Facilitate a Social Innovation Program student team
- Supervise a Stewardship group
- Participate in Morning Meeting assemblies
- Chaperone two (2) Field Studies camping trips per year (one in the fall or winter; one in the spring), including driving school vans.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years of high school teaching experience. Successful candidates will also have the following qualifications:
- A masters degree or higher in the field of Humanities or English
- Have experience teaching Humanities and/or English at the middle, high school, or college level
- Evidence of mastery in the field of Humanities or English
- Evidence of anti-bias teaching practices
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated passion about project-based, student-centered pedagogy
- Have experience with or have an interest in changemaking and service-learning
- Are interested in the collaborative work of faculty, including curriculum planning
