Nick Mahshie (he/him/his) brings 15 years of experience as a visual artist, educator, and designer to Sequoyah. His focus on interdisciplinary art practices have guided his commitment to arts education at the college and high school levels in New Orleans, Chicago, and most recently Miami’s top magnet art programs. His teaching approach is driven by a desire to build confidence through material experimentation, critical dialogue, and self-reflection in the studio space. Through formative experiences including studying fine art in Italy, living as an artist in Argentina, and collaborating with artisan printmakers in India, he shaped the view that artists have the potential to bridge borders through their visionary creative models for the future.
Born and raised in Miami, Nick Mahshie’s own art practice reveals an infatuation with natural forms and patterns emboldened by a saturated palette. He earned a BFA in painting at Rhode Island School of Design and a Masters of Design in Fashion from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
