The Part-Time Health Educator/Counselor teaches some Health & Wellness classes, and supports individual students and families as a school-based counselor and member of the Student Support Team across two campuses (K-8 and 9-12). They will support the implementation of a comprehensive Health & Wellness curriculum to include positive identity development (racial-ethnic, socioeconomic, gender, etc), interpersonal skill development, boundaries and consent, sexuality, and drug education.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support teaching of Health & Wellness classes, including positive identity development (racial-ethnic, socio-economic, gender, etc), interpersonal skill development, boundaries and consent, sexuality, and drug education
  • Use interactive teaching strategies, including hands-on activities, discussions, and technology, to maximize student engagement
  • Adapt curriculum to be relatable, culturally relevant, and accessible to students of all abilities
  • As a member of the Student Support team, provide short-term counseling support to students when needed, holding once-per-week Office Hours including, but not limited to student breaks, lunch, and after school
  • Prioritize equipping students to be in class
  • Utilize student information system to maintain detailed records of student support
  • Advise and collaborate proactively with teachers, Learning Services and Student Support Team, and Division Directors
  • Serve as a resource for students, parents, and staff regarding health-related questions and resources

Qualifications

Qualified candidates have relevant experience as a teacher, counselor, therapist, or psychologist and must have experience working with middle and/or high school students.

Successful candidates will also have the following qualifications:

  • A graduate degree in teaching, counseling, therapy, psychology, or related field
  • Provisional license required, full license preferred – MSW, LCSW, LMHC, NCC
  • Background as a psychologist, mental health counselor, or clinical social worker
  • A commitment to equity and inclusion
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Skill with anti-bias and anti-racist practices
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective emotional, psychological, and social support
  • Demonstrated ability to be a valuable resource for students, parents, faculty, and staff
