Social Innovation Program: Visiting a Design Firm

Social Innovation Program

Learn to solve problems creatively

To prepare graduates for an interconnected world with complex social and environmental challenges, students participate in our four-year Social Innovation Program (SIP). The program cultivates empathy, social entrepreneurship skills, and a passion for positive impact.

Students develop skills in ethical decision-making, research (including ethnographic methods and statistics), systems thinking, innovation strategies, and sustainable impact. Through impact projects, they explore questions like: What defines a social entrepreneur? How should they approach local issues globally? How can lasting impact be achieved?

The project team demonstrates their grasp of challenges, cultural contexts, and stakeholder perspectives—learning from what hasn’t worked and proposing effective solutions. They are assessed on critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration.

Friends of SIP

Thank you to the more than 300+ organizations and people who have generously taken the time to meet with and host our students. Below are a handful of the non-profits, government agencies, businesses, and colleges that have engaged with us.

"Beyond Sequoyah, I still find myself using what I have learned in SIP to strengthen my professionalism, expand my network, and amass wonderful opportunities. Writing proper emails and proposals helps me stand out when applying for competitive, prestigious internships as a college student. It was a grand privilege of mine to take part in SIP."

Creating Changemakers

Through talking with people and visiting places, students develop a firm understanding of their relationship to complex injustices facing our local and global communities.

Graduates are seasoned ethnographic researchers, imaginative creators, and thoughtful collaborators who fluently wield and yield power.
