Honoring Our Past, Owning Our Future

K-8 Campus Purchase

Talon Tales 2023

At long last, Caltrans has offered the K-8 campus for sale and Sequoyah can finally own a piece of our history as a foundation for our future.

We wouldn’t be in this position except for the tireless determination of those in our community and beyond who fought the extension of the SR 710 N freeway through Pasadena. Thank you!

Throughout Sequoyah’s history, community involvement and investment have been crucial for each pivotal moment in its growth and development, and essential to the everyday culture and joy of the Sequoyah experience.

Enabling the school to purchase this beloved campus is another decisive and promising moment.

About the Campus

The beloved 2.3 acre property in the heart of Pasadena was Sequoyah’s first home–with historic and architecturally significant mid-century modern buildings originally designed for an educational purpose. They not only uphold how we collaboratively teach and learn–the classrooms and grounds are an expression of Sequoyah’s educational experience. The indoors is oriented towards the outdoors, rooms are filled with natural light, spaces are intentionally designed to encourage gathering and playing, and overall, the scale of its buildings is sensitive to the fabric and character of the adjacent residential neighborhood.

Its value as a uniquely open school site in an urban setting, supporting extraordinary teachers and their young students, mirrors the value of a Sequoyah education – worthy of investment and exponentially appreciating over time.

The Future

The pending K-8 campus purchase is one of many steps to secure the founding vision of an extraordinary, progressive education rooted in a sense of place and the socioeconomic diversity of its community.

Ownership of Sequoyah’s K-8 campus at 535 South Pasadena Avenue and 500 South Pasadena Avenue directly across the street, purchased by the school in 2021, offers the synergistic potential for facilities development and renovation serving our growing K-12 program demands.

Thank you for your financial support.
