Assistant Head of School and K-8 Director

Kim has been a member of the Sequoyah community as a parent since 2015 and as an educator since 2016, dedicating five years as the Treehouse lead teacher before moving into her current role, where she gets to problem-solve with kids, tell bad jokes at All School Meeting, and dream about what more we want for our students with her colleagues.  When she is not at school, Kim enjoys time with her husband, two kids, and their dogs, playing games and generally driving each other nuts. On the rare occasion, she is not surrounded by people, she is listening to crime podcasts, running, crocheting, or a combination of things since multitasking is her jam.

Kim Diaz comes from New York, where she lovingly returns most summers to spend time with her extended family.  After earning her BA in Sociology and Women’s Studies from Wesleyan University, she spent some time as a diversity recruiter for Accenture. She knew she was meant for other things, however, and switched to education, teaching second and fourth grades at Trevor Day School.

She earned her MS in Early Childhood and Elementary Education at Bank Street College of Education and later moved to Los Angeles and taught third grade at Oakwood School for another four years. After two years of staying home with her son, she combined her love of being with her own children and her love of teaching, to serve as a teacher at Rose Scharlin Cooperative Nursery School before coming to Sequoyah.
