Join the Sequoyah School Legacy Society
Since its founding in 1958, Sequoyah School has evolved from a cooperative elementary school to a multi-campus K-12 independent school. While it has grown in size and scope, it has never strayed from its mission of providing an education that challenges the mind, nurtures the heart, and celebrates human dignity. Sequoyah is a special community, and one that we want preserved for generations to come. Now, through Sequoyah’s Legacy Society, supporters like you can make a planned gift that preserves your family’s legacy and ensures our future.
Why are planned gifts important?
The highly competitive nature of the independent school landscape, coupled with the ever-increasing cost of living in Los Angeles, make financial sustainability more vital than ever for our school. Growing endowments, nourished through bequests, buttress our indexed tuition program and our faculty compensation. Both of these endowments support mission-critical initiatives at Sequoyah: socioeconomic diversity and transformational teaching.
Today’s planned gift supports tomorrow’s Sequoyah School
Planned giving is giving in perpetuity. It creates a legacy, and allows you to live on by supporting an organization you care about.
There are many ways to make a planned gift:
- Include Sequoyah School as a beneficiary in your will or trust.
- Designate Sequoyah School as a beneficiary of your retirement or financial account (i.e. bank, investment, life insurance) by logging into your account and specifying a percentage for Sequoyah. (Check with your accountant for the ideal asset to bequeath.)
- If you’re 70½ or older, make an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution, avoiding taxes on as much as $111,000 a year.
- Make outright or deferred gifts of real estate, business interests, or personal property.
- Consider giving appreciated assets, such as publicly traded stock, which allows for certain tax advantages.
- Give through a Donor Advised Fund.
- Ask us about other charitable giving vehicles like Charitable Remainder Trusts.
Donors of all ages and income levels have pledged planned gifts to Sequoyah School. Your gift—as simple as checking a box to add Sequoyah as a beneficiary—can be of any size to help us build long-term financial stability and successfully grow our endowments.
