Calina Ciobanu

  Humanities Department Chair

Calina came to Sequoyah with more than a decade of experience in higher education, most recently as an assistant professor of English at the U.S. Naval Academy. She also taught at Emerson College, as well as at Duke University, where she earned her Ph.D. in English.

Calina’s doctoral work brought together the fields of feminist theory, postcolonial studies, and human-animal studies in order to examine forms of disposable life within the contemporary Anglophone novel.  She holds an A.B. from Harvard and an M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge, both in English.

Delighted to be a part of Sequoyah’s nurturing and inspiring learning community, Calina is grateful to be able to share her love of literature and the humanities with her students.

In her spare time, she loves horseback riding, hiking, and curling up with her dog, cat, and a good book.
