High School Visual Arts
The Visual Arts program at Sequoyah School offers studio-based courses that develop problem-solving and divergent thinking while working towards technical proficiency and confidence as artists and makers. As students develop their craft, they are encouraged to engage in thoughtful inquiry into their art making processes. Through iteration, collaboration, and a thematic approach towards their art practice, students develop a strong understanding between concept and form.
Students learn to research art history and practice across cultures, time periods, and mediums. Through a project-based approach, students connect their research to their own artwork, creating art that expresses personal meaning within a cultural and historical context. In addition to learning how to appreciate, evaluate, and communicate about their own work and that of others, students are encouraged to share it with an audience through frequent peer critique sessions, exhibitions, presentations, and other real-world applications.
